Benefits of Vibration Training

Vibrational training originated from research conducted during the 1960’s space race.  It can provide a host of impressive health benefits while reducing your workout time.

Contraindications

While vibration platforms are safe for most individuals, including the elderly, The American Council on Exercise warns that vibration is contraindicated for those with electronic implants such as pacemakers, pregnant women and those with a history of seizure, thrombosis and/or tumors.

Benefits of Vibration Training

Studies have shown that a mere 12 minutes of vibration training equals 1.5 hours of working out with weights.  Research also has shown that it can help with the following:

·         Increase in muscle strength and improve proprioception (body’s awareness of its self in space) and balance

·         Reduce pain

·         Increase hormone secretion – testosterone and Human Growth Hormone

·         Increase fat loss – training in conjunction with resistance training improved fat loss in menopausal women

·         Improve neurological function

·         Increase flexibility and mobility

·         Counteract age related muscle wasting

·         Decrease cortisol levels – Decreased cortisol production stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system which decreases heart rate and blood pressure, increases insulin production which decreases blood glucose.

·         Improve blood circulation which can stimulate tissue healing

·         Increase secretion of serotonin and norepinephrine – serotonin has a beneficial effect on mood, including promoting happiness, relaxation and the ability to get a good nights sleep.  Norepinephrine increases alertness, enhances memory and focuses attention.
